Move over silver foxes, here come the foxy silvers

Mature models launch #silverandsassy campaign and catwalk that proves grey is gorgeous as part of York Fashion Week https://www.yorkfashionweek.co.uk (20-27 March, 2020)

Two Yorkshire silver models are flying the flag for grey, silver and white-haired women with a new Silver & Sassy campaign and fashion show for older women.

Silver curve model Rachel Peru and former TV cook turned mature model Annie Stirk have joined forces to show grey matters with a #silverandsassy runway event and lunch at the luxury National Trust hotel Middlethorpe Hall www.middlethorpe.com, York, on March 26, 2020.

As well as silver models showing off the latest fashions, the Silver & Sassy event, hosted by ITV news presenter Christine Talbot, will encourage older women to boot out the ‘going grey gracefully’ mentality and celebrate their new look.

“It’s not just a fashion and beauty event – but an opportunity to make older women who feel invisible, visible and vibrant again!” says Annie, who turns 70 next year. “We want our campaign to encourage better representation of grey-haired women of all ages and help them stand up and be counted.”

“Through the campaign we want to help mature women feel happy to let their grey hair down – and grow out! We want this campaign and our fun, empowering event to celebrate grey, silver and white-haired women, and those going grey, and give them the confidence to wear bold, bright colours or get a new haircut cut that better reflects their new look.”

Silver model and body confidence activist Rachel Peru adds: “While for some women going grey is transformational, for the majority it is the visible representation of an aging process they’re not happy with. The menopause may have come and gone or is still in progress, the nest is empty, retirement looms and there may be physical and bodily changes – and suddenly the clothes, colours, 'the look' they have previously always enjoyed doesn’t work so well anymore. Silver & Sassy will show them a new way of thinking, without the dyes and the cover ups.”

Jayne Mayled founder of White Hot Hair company will also be joining the event, sharing her own personal experience of going grey and how this led to the brands creation along with offering some top tips on how to manage your grey locks.

The Silver & Sassy event will also help support pioneering York women’s charity Kyra www.kyra.org.uk, which provides courses, therapies and events for vulnerable women.

The event is grateful to lingerie brand Figleaves (https://www.figleaves.com/uk/) and local company York Gin (https://www.yorkgin.com) for sponsoring Silver & Sassy. Watch out for those fabulous models in swimsuits!
