Women in the Workshop – successful course starts in June 2021
The successful Women in the Workshop course is back this June and limited places are available for ladies in the Scarborough area.
The course, organised by Futureworks NY in Scarborough, is aimed at unemployed and economically inactive women who are interested in gaining basic hands-on skills, furniture restoration and gaining additional experience.
The next session starts on 24th June 2021 at the Futureworks NY retail outlet, Furniture Works in St Thomas Street, Scarborough. The first Women in the Workshop of 2021 course was held earlier this year and was a huge success.
Sarah Thornton, co-founder of Futureworks NY, said: “This is a 12-week course that’s a great way to meet new people and build confidence for women in the Scarborough area. In addition, participants will be able to gain experience in retail, learn upcycling techniques for the home and explore their creativity.
“We can also give our ladies support to look at future plans and opportunities in our local area. Sessions are 9.30am to 12.00 noon or 1.00pm to 3.30pm.
“One of the unique elements of Women in the Workshop is that participants are fully supported, and it can open doors for their future, too.”
The course is open to women aged over 18 years. Anyone interested can get in touch with the Futureworks NY team on 01723 449616.
Michelle Padron-Kitching along with Sarah co-founded Futureworks NY, a Community Interest Company in 2012. Futureworks NY is a not-for-profit organisation that helps local learners from school age upwards, enabling them to acquire life skills, confidence, practical skills and some qualifications in an environment that suits their individual requirements.
Futureworks NY has a learning space in The Street, Scarborough, and its core values include compassion and integrity.
Their retail outlet, Furniture Works, is based at 39 St Thomas Street and opened in autumn 2020. The premises include a retail unit to the front and a spacious workshop to the rear.
All courses are subject to Covid-Secure measures for the health and safety of all those involved.
