Families are invited to enjoy a free day of sport, entertainment and community activities in Shipley on Saturday 18 July, as part of the town's popular Summer Special event.
Organised by Shipley Town Council, the event will take place from 11am to 3pm and features a packed programme of sport-inspired activities, live entertainment, arts and crafts, and an outdoor market.
All activities are free and open to everyone.
Highlights include:
- Free skateboarding lessons in the Market Square car park
- A climbing wall in Market Square
- Giant inflatables in Central Park
- Face painting and children's yoga at the Library
- Line dancing at Kirkgate Community Centre
- Inflatable axe throwing and a penalty shoot-out in the Underground Market
- Live DJ sets throughout the day at the Outdoor Market
- Visitors can also browse an outdoor market featuring a variety of local traders, community groups and charities.
Councillor Colin Longden, Chair of Shipley Town Council's Community Engagement Committee, said: "It's been an incredible summer of sport, with events such as the FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon and international cricket inspiring people of all ages to get active. Our Summer Special is a fantastic opportunity to bring that sporting spirit to Shipley, with lots of free activities for families and friends to enjoy together. Alongside the sports, there'll be great entertainment, music, crafts and local market stalls, making it a brilliant day out for everyone."
The event will also include the official unveiling of the name of the town centre's newly installed sheep sculptures by Sculptor Dan Jones, following a naming competition involving local schools.
