This October half term, take the family on an enchanting adventure with Northern Ballet’s Little Red Riding Hood, a playful retelling of the much-loved fairy tale where fun, friendship, and the importance of kindness take centre stage.
Little Red is a kind little girl who loves her family. On the way to visit her grandmother, she meets a very hungry wolf in the woods — but is he really as ‘big and bad’ as the stories say?
Designed especially for children and their families, Little Red Riding Hood gives little ones the chance to experience live dance, music and theatre. With colourful costumes, lively characters and imaginative storytelling, it's the perfect half term treat for the while family!
Originally created in 2019, choreographer Mariana Rodrigues spoke about her experience revisiting the production with a new perspective and the importance of having dance shows that are accessible to younger audiences:
"It was really special to come back and work on the show again, this time as a parent. I feel like I have a different perspective now on what children are able to perceive and take from the show, from my experience observing my own child. It was great to have the opportunity to come back for the last week of rehearsals, because I was able to draw from that experience and add some final touches with all of that in mind."
"Having the option to take your child to see something like this is wonderful. Dance is a universal language, and very much in children's DNA, so they really connect to the visual elements and physicality in the show. Plus the live music and the bright sets and costumes — it is a whole little world they get to be a part of and experience live, and they love it!"
See Little Red Riding Hood at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre in Leeds from Tuesday 28 October to Saturday 01 November. Families can also arrive early and enjoy some fairy tale-themed crafts in the foyer before the start of the performance.
