Wizz Air restarts flights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport
Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) is celebrating as Wizz Air UK has restarted flights from the UK’s favourite airport, following the UK Government’s lifting of the ban on international travel. With the first flight to the popular holiday destination, Faro taking off on 27 May, Wizz has restarted it’s DSA base which was launched in October 2020.
For those looking to book a last-minute sunshine getaway this summer, customers in the Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire can once again take advantage of Wizz Air’s ultra-low fares to 25 exciting destinations. Whether it’s a cultural trip to the vibrant city of Faro in Portugal, an escape to the idyllic Greek island of Crete, or a sailing holiday around Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, sun-seeking passengers will be spoilt for choice when deciding on their post lockdown getaway.
For ultimate peace of mind during this time, passengers can book tickets with the airline’s travel insurance package which includes Covid-19 cover and WIZZ Flex. With WIZZ Flex, passengers can cancel their flight up to three hours before departure without any fee and receive 100% of the fare immediately reimbursed in airline credit.
The airport, which recently celebrated its 16th anniversary, is prepped and ready to get passengers back in the air, the check-in desks are in shape and the sanitiser stations refilled in readiness for a highly anticipated summer season in the sun.
Every effort has been made to create a safe and seamless service including a new testing centre located at DSA operated by market leader, Randox so that passengers can easily follow the current guidance and take the appropriate tests prior to departure and on return.
Owain Jones, managing director of Wizz Air UK, said: “We are delighted to be restarting operations from our Doncaster Sheffield base, bringing back connections to the region, and offering our customers great value travel options for their post lockdown getaway. With 25 routes on offer from Doncaster Sheffield, including seven Spanish sunshine destinations, we are ensuring customers in Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire can fly from their local airport to popular holiday hotspots this summer. We look forward to welcoming passengers back on board our young, modern and sustainable aircraft, where they can rely on our stringent health and hygiene measures and excellent service as they head on their long-awaited summer holiday.”
Chris Harcombe, director of aviation development at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “Today is something of a celebration as we’ve been eagerly waiting for the Government to give the green light to international travel. We’re seeing plenty of pent-up demand from passengers keen to get away on a much-needed holiday in the sun and visiting loved ones abroad.
“It’s been a tough 12-months for the aviation industry and, although we’ve remained operational throughout the pandemic providing vital freight service, leisure travel is the beating heart of the UK’s favourite airport and we can’t wait to welcome back customers and get them up in the air for summer. We’ve been working closely with our operators to ensure the safe return of air travel and with a number of flexible products available including a testing facility on-site, we’re pleased that customers can book their holiday with confidence. We’re looking forward to a positive recovery and a bright year ahead.”
