Christmas Carol Drive-in Experience’
Co-working office space, The Junction Horbury is using its car park to host Yorkshire's first ever ‘Christmas Carol Drive-in Experience’ on Friday 11th December from 6.00 - 7.30pm raising much needed funds for Wakefield Hospice.
Helen May, MD of The Junction co-working office space, has persuaded neighbouring businesses of the Mallard Industrial Estate to give up their car park spaces for an evening of fundraising and Christmas carols in a COVID-19 safe environment. Events company VooDoo and SF Leisure will join forces to host the event with master of ceremonies Pat Langham and Charles Keith, Mayor of Wakefield. Attendees will also be treated to a solo by Charlie Trueman, finalist of the BBC’s Young Chorister of the Year 2020.
Speaking about the event, Helen said “We have recently hosted drive-in cinema experiences and I thought this would be a great opportunity to use the same format to safely allow people to come together to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause”.
The evening will include an hour long carol service with a difference, with all music broadcast directly into every car via FM radio, and the words to the carols displayed on a giant cinema screen. Attendees will also be treated to a solo by Charlie Trueman, finalist of the BBC’s Young Chorister of the Year 2020.
Director of Income Generation at Wakefield Hospice, Helen Knowles, commented on the event “It has been a tough year for many charities and the hospice is no exception. It costs over £4 million a year to simply keep Wakefield Hospice running; and fundraising contributes enormously. So we are so grateful to not only all the partners and supporters who have come together and given up their time to put this event on, but everyone who has bought a ticket and already raised £2k for the hospice. It’s fantastic.”
The ‘Christmas Carol Drive-in Experience’ event has been classified as COVID-19 Secure. Guests must adhere to the COVID-19 secure guidelines. Attendees will be able to order food via a mobile APP from the safety and comfort of their own cars. All profits from the food sales will go directly to Wakefield Hospice.
Tickets for the event sold out in 48 hours but the evening will be filmed live and streamed online the next day at 3pm so the patients, staff and friends and families of Wakefield Hospice can watch the event.
