5 things you won’t be able to do when you go back to the salon

The countdown to getting your hair cut or roots coloured is now on. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced salons can reopen on 4 July – and salons across England are busily working to get ready for clients. But when they return, it will be a very different experience than before.

Three-times North Western Hairdresser of the Year Marcello Moccia, owner of Room 97 Creative in Wakefield and Leeds, says his team have been working throughout the lockdown to get the three salons ready for clients to come in – but admits some things won’t be the same.

“We have been following industry and Government guidelines to ensure all clients feel safe when they come into the salon. We have invested in PPE and instilled social distancing practices into our working day. The client journey is still important and we want everyone to feel pampered and leave feeling a million dollars, but there will be some changes. The expertise of stylists and colourists and pampering elements of a visit will continue, but there are certain things that clients won’t be able to do.”

Here’s five things you won’t be able to do when you go back to the salon

• There’ll be no hugs, kisses or shaking of hands with your stylist or colourist when you enter the salon. Your stylist will welcome you into the salon and take you straight to your styling station – all while social distancing.
• You won’t be able to enjoy a coffee, smoothie or glass of Prosecco. Some salons may use disposable cups, but most won’t be serving refreshments so bring your own.
• Bring something to read – you won’t be given a magazine to read.
• You won’t be able to pay by cash – salons such as Room 97 Creative will be offering pre-pay options and card payments only.
• Don’t expect a lengthy consultation – consultations will be done over the phone before you arrive and appointments will be strictly timed, so there won’t be time to sit and have a long-winded catch up.
