For most people, December is a month chock full of get-togethers, so much so that a flick through your diary can make you feel like a high-flying socialite. A family pub lunch here and festive cocktails with friends there, not forgetting the annual works party, charity fundraising lunch and all those networking events.

This year, however, the pandemic means that festivities have become almost obsolete. Some have been cancelled altogether, others are happening online and, for those in low tiers where you can socialise outdoors, the merriments have moved al fresco.

But whatever happens over the coming days, it’s more important than ever that we find pockets of joy wherever they may be throughout the season – whether it’s enjoying great food or even just getting dressed in an outfit that lifts our spirits and makes the moment feel appropriately special.

While this year’s Christmas party might be taking on an unconventional format, that shouldn’t dissuade you from getting dressed up. From sequins and feathers - a festive outfit can be just the thing to lift your spirits, even if the only airtime it’s going to get is on Zoom.

Many women have been living in loungewear for the best part of a year, and looking for ideas on how to inject a bit of Christmas spirit into their wardrobe.

Whether it’s virtual drinks for the works office party or a Zoom call with loved ones who cannot join you over the festive season, here’s some inspiration!

A jumpsuit may be something very few of us are likely to have even considered wearing this year. But we guarantee you’ll want to make an exception for this bandeau, feather tapered one by River Island.

A skirt and top combination is a winner, whether you go for both at the same time or mix and match as the mood takes you! This beautiful “Cocktail O’clock Co-Ord” by Whistles is particularly eye-catching and very on trend.

Finally, slip into this comfortable sparkly sequin top on days that call for a little shimmer and shine with a relaxed fit for a roomy feel from the M&S Collection: easy-to-wear wardrobe staples that combine classic and contemporary styles.
