Award-winning residential developer Yorkshire Country Properties (YCP) has announced that the houses at its brand-new Denby Dale site in West Yorkshire have achieved a gold star rating for their energy efficiency and environmental impact.

The Willows development, which comprises 34 new houses including eight one-bed starter homes, has undergone the Government’s rigorous Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) which assess a property’s green and sustainable credentials.

The development has received an A rating, the highest SAP accolade there is.

Oliver Bottomley, YCP’s associate director, land and development, explained: “We are absolutely delighted to have achieved this A rating. As a residential housing developer, we are acutely aware of our environmental responsibilities, and we are now striving to achieve A ratings on all our new sites. This is a crucial objective for us.

“Building regulations dictate that we obtain both design and as-built SAPs, which are generated by pulling together the build criteria including materials used, insulation and heating types. At Denby Dale, these included our use of timber-frame construction, highly efficient gas boilers, full internal wall insulation, solar panels, and wastewater heat recovery, which have all been used to create this high energy efficient rating, used in a variety of combinations

“Each property at Denby Dale has different methods of achieving the rating due to its location on the site, orientation and roof configuration. But all are equally energy efficient and environmentally friendly. We are proud to place more emphasis on sustainability than the bigger volume housebuilders, which sets us apart.

“Energy is a bigger topic right now than it’s been in a generation. As we work our way through an ongoing energy crisis, most of us have become more conscious of how much energy we use and our homes at Denby Dale have been built specifically to keep energy costs down.”

Already nine of the Denby Dales homes have been bought, with a further one reserved. Prices range from £152,000 to £580,000 and the development will be fully completed by early 2025.

Samantha McGregor, YCP’s associate director, sales, commented: “We are so proud of The Willows. Situated in the breathtaking Yorkshire countryside, yet still within reach of excellent local amenities, our development provides the best of both worlds with a vibrant yet peaceful lifestyle. It is also close to Huddersfield, recently named as the UK’s premier property hotspot.

“Denby Dale first school is just a mile away, while Denby Dale Station, which is on the Penistone line that runs from Huddersfield to Sheffield, is even closer. Access to Yorkshire’s superb motorway network is excellent, with the M1 a 15-minute drive away. Commuting to major regional cities such as Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Barnsley takes less than an hour.”

The last word goes to Jackie Wignall, who moved into her Denby Dale house last month and enthused: “Thank you again YCP for being different, a premium builder who cares. Your help was much appreciated, helping to make the move a little less stressful. This help is not something consumers have come to expect generally from the construction industry.”
