Lawyer receives entrepreneurial accolade

Hannah Strawbridge, Founder and CEO of Han Law Co has been crowned ‘Entrepreneurial Businesswoman of the Year’, at the third annual Great British Businesswoman Awards. She was the only lawyer to take home an accolade.

The awards recognise and celebrate the inspiring women innovating and leading the way in their respective industries across the UK. 22 winners were awarded on the night, selected from over 600 entries, by a panel of expert judges spanning a wide range of industries and big-name companies, including Nancy Hobhouse Head of ESG at EVRI, Romy Desmarais, Talent Development Manager at Harrods, and Ellie Long, Inclusive Hiring & Early Careers Leader, Rolls Royce and many more.

Hannah said; “I am incredibly proud to have scooped this award and still a little in shock! HanLawCo was the only law firm in the room, and I was the only lawyer to receive an award - which I collected on behalf of the amazing Han Law team.

“It really does mark a fantastic start to the year for us and I want to take the opportunity to encourage all the lawyers out there who want to be more than just technical experts. If you want to use your creativity to grow businesses that challenge the status quo and foster diversity, question chargeable hours targets, and show that law can be fun and rewarding, then stop waiting and just do it. Ambitious women can have a family and be successful and hopefully, I’m proof of that. If you are unhappy, change it, take a chance, never give up, or lose sight of your goals. With the right people around you, you can achieve anything and if I can inspire more women to lead in the industry, then I have done my job well.”

In addition, Han Law Co has also been shortlisted for a further hat trick of awards, Yorkshire Businesswoman of the Year at the Yorkshire Businesswoman Awards, both the Female Trailblazer and Client Care categories at the Modern Law Awards and Professional Services Leader at the Yorkshire Leadership Awards.

Hannah continued, “2023 was a successful year for us in more ways than one and being shortlisted in so many prestigious awards is a testament to the hard work of my wonderful team. Everyone in the team works tirelessly to deliver the best possible services to all our clients, and it is my job to support them, which enables them to be the best at what they do. I’m excited about the year ahead. I have ambitious plans to work with more national and international clients and to grow the firm further.”

Established in 2019 Han Law Co is an employment law consultancy comprising a mix of legal and HR professionals with over 200 years of combined experience. Why tax returns are forcing women to rethink their careers

There's a very specific moment that happens for many professional women at this time of year, and it has nothing to do with spring motivation or fresh starts. It arrives when they're doing their tax return, and what begins as a financial exercise often becomes something far more revealing.
