Huddersfield Literature Festival (HuddLitFest) has announced that lisa luxx will join Sir Patrick Stewart OBE and Lemn Sissay OBE as a Patron of the Festival with immediate effect. A queer poet, playwright, essayist and political activist of British and Syrian heritage, lisa luxx was raised in Huddersfield and has strong connections with the local area. Her debut poetry collection Fetch Your Mother’s Heart came out in 2021, and her debut short story collection Sun Son will be released by Comma

lisa luxx joins Sir Patrick Stewart as patron of the Huddersfield Literature Festival

Huddersfield Literature Festival (HuddLitFest) has announced that lisa luxx will join Sir Patrick Stewart OBE and Lemn Sissay OBE as a Patron of the Festival with immediate effect.

A queer poet, playwright, essayist and political activist of British and Syrian heritage, lisa luxx was raised in Huddersfield and has strong connections with the local area. Her debut poetry collection Fetch Your Mother’s Heart came out in 2021, and her debut short story collection Sun Son will be released by Comma Press this year.

Her work has been published in a variety of anthologies and literary journals, and broadcast on radio and TV. Much in demand for her live performances, she is the winner of the Out-Spoken Prize for Performance Poetry. She wrote the script for three theatre shows: Eating the Copple Apple, what the dog said to the harvestand The Moon is Listening from Dawn til Dusk. Between writing, she guest lectures on revolutionary poetics and queer theory, and works as a lyricist with LA-based Maison Arts. She splits her time between Beirut and London.

Festival director Michelle Hodgson said: “We are thrilled that lisa luxx has agreed to become a Festival patron. Her heartfelt and mesmerising performances at the Festival have drawn high praise and her strong connection with the town also makes her a great ambassador for our Festival.”

Winner of the Accessible and Inclusive Award at the Yorkshire Post Tourism Awards (2022), the Festival will run from 11-28 April 2024, with a special performance by lisa luxx on Friday 26 April at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, comprising poetry performance and readings from her new short story collection Sun Son, supported by oud player Kareem Samara.
