The British Association for Sport and Law (BASL) are proud to announce the relaunch of its well-established and highly respected Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Sport and Law, now delivered through Leeds Beckett University (LBU).

This refreshed programme reflects the evolving landscape of sport law and is designed to equip students with the legal knowledge and practical insight needed to thrive in the global sport law industry. With a curriculum shaped by leading academics and practitioners, the PGCert offers a unique opportunity for those looking to enter or advance within the sport law profession.

The PGCert covers key areas such as governance, regulation, dispute resolution, athlete rights, and commercial law in sport, which makes the course ideal for working professionals and recent graduates alike. Students will also benefit from access to BASL’s extensive network of legal and sport industry experts, as well as mentoring, support and career development conversations facilitated by Tactic Connect.

The new look course will be delivered through a hybrid learning model, providing more flexibility for online study alongside opportunities to come together for face to face learning and networking.

Genevieve Gordon-Thomson, joint programme lead and co vice-chair of BASL, said: “The launch of the BASL PGCert with Leeds Beckett University marks an exciting step forward for those passionate about shaping the future of sport through legal expertise. This well-established renowned programme is designed for individuals who are eager to work at the intersection of sport and law, whether you are just starting out or looking to deepen your professional impact. If you’re driven by integrity, innovation, and a love for the business of sport, we encourage you to apply and become part of the community of sport law professionals.”

Dr. Sara Ward, joint programme lead and director of Executive & Postgraduate Education at Leeds Beckett University, added:

“This course will benefit both non-specialist and existing sport lawyers who are at the beginning of their career to further cement their understanding in this field. The course has applied learning throughout the length of study and is packed with experienced industry speakers who bring a broad range of legal topics to life with engaging, practical examples of the law in action in their sports. It also provides an opportunity to meet and connect with people currently working in the industry.”
