A free day of family fun is planned for Saturday 27th July when Shipley gets into the carnival spirit for the annual Summer Special event.

Organised by Shipley Town Council, a variety of activities and events with a carnival theme will take place throughout the town centre from 10am. All event activities are free for members of the public to enjoy.

Inflatable assault courses will be in Crowgill and Central Park, and there will be face painting, balloon modelling, silent disco in the Underground Market, a mask trail, and dance workshops for people to participate in.

A parade of local community groups and school children will take place at 10.30am in the Town Square, and Shipley-based theatre performers, Q20 are hosting a Carnival Capers stage show at 11am and 2pm.

Live music will be performed throughout the day, including acoustic performances outside the Library and a samba band, a brass band and steel band will entertain shoppers.

Councillor Mike Farren, Chair of the Shipley Town Council Community Engagement Committee said: “The Shipley Summer Special event has become a calendar favourite and always popular with families across the district. With so many free activities to enjoy, it will be a full day of carnival fun and a great opportunity for visitors to explore the parks, shops and eateries Shipley has to offer.”

The outdoor market will include a range of additional stalls showcasing local traders, crafters and artists.

The event will take place between 10am-4pm, with a full schedule of activities and times available on the Shipley Town Council website – www.shipleytowncouncil.gov.uk
