Sisters go into partnership to acquire fine-dining restaurant

Sisters Alice Smith and Lily Brooke Day have fulfilled their lifelong dream of owning a restaurant business, after acquiring the popular Brook’s fine-dining eatery in Brighouse.

Brook’s on Bradford Road in the town was opened in 1989 and has built up a strong reputation amongst food lovers as one of the best independent restaurants in West Yorkshire.

Having previously worked for Ultimate Finance and Aldermore Bank, Alice is swapping her 16-year career in business finance to co-own the restaurant with Lily, who has previously worked in hospitality and has recently run a successful art gallery in London.

The new owners have no immediate plans to change the restaurant’s modern British food offering and relaxed ambience that have been a hallmark of its success.

From offering a private dining room experience that accommodates up to 20 guests through to catering for those in search of weekend brunch or Sunday lunch, the seasonal, A la carte menu at Brook’s caters for a range of tastes.

Yorkshire-born head-chef, Dan Maxwell has been with the restaurant for over five years and will continue to showcase his skills and popular selection of dishes alongside his talented kitchen team.

Brook’s new co-owner, Alice Smith, said: “It’s no exaggeration to say that owning a restaurant has been a lifelong dream for both Lily and I and we can’t believe it has now finally happened.

“When the opportunity became available to purchase Brook’s we knew that we had to seize the moment. It has an excellent reputation locally and across the region and we’ve both enjoyed dining there for many years. Our immediate focus is very much on continuing the hard work that has been put into the restaurant to date and building on the business model that has made it such a huge success for over 35 years.

“With us both having ‘Brooke’ as our maiden name you could say it was always fate that we would one day own the restaurant.”

Brook’s was elected as one Britain's 100 Best Local Restaurants in 2023 by The Good Food Guide.

Why tax returns are forcing women to rethink their careers

There's a very specific moment that happens for many professional women at this time of year, and it has nothing to do with spring motivation or fresh starts. It arrives when they're doing their tax return, and what begins as a financial exercise often becomes something far more revealing.
