We really have no excuses not to invest in our skin during the extended lockdown period and with this in mind we have turned to skin specialist Caroline McCready, the owner of the soon to open Zen boutique day Spa in Mirfield and an expert with 23 years experience in the industry, for advice.

I would like to talk to you about skin!

What do you use on it?

Lockdown is the perfect time to give your skin a rest from makeup and daily grime, and whip it into tip top shape.

I would like to share with you a simple, cost effective way to bring your skin "back to life" and "give back that "glow". A simple routine that is quick and easy to fit in with our usually busy lives.

"What is the secret?" you ask.
There is no secret, it is down to the products you may be using.

Let's talk antioxidants!

Vitamin C is one of the most effective antioxidants, one of the most powerful for prevention of premature aging.

There are 3 key benefits to Vitamin C, it is an exceptional antioxidant, fighting off free radicals that are attacking your skin on a daily basis by boosting your skins immune system. Essential for the production of collagen/elastin. It also disrupts the production of melanin, which causes pigmentation.

Now lets talk sun protection!

Lots of ladies say "My foundation/moisturiser has SPF15 so I don't meed it".

That is not enough, I do recommend a separate sunscreen. Many versions of available on the market and are more cosmetically elegant than they used to be, non greasy and lightweight too. Always use an SPF of at least 30 and ensure it protects against UVA/UVB rays, this is really important.

Susan Posnicks "Brush on Block" is a great alternative to creams and offers a SPF30, this is a mineral powder and can be reapplied over makeup throughout the day, effortless and simple.

Last but not least is my favourite skincare "must have" is Vitamin A, known as retinol.

The benefits of this product is that it increases collagen/elastin production for a plumper, more youthful looking skin. It increases the cell turnover for a smoother skin surface. Using retinol will also decrease pigmentation and reduce oil production to minimise pores and blemish formation.

Incorporating this product into your skin care routine is definitely the one to give the desired "glow".

So there you are - there is no real secret to great skin and you don't have to make life difficult at all.

My advice: Vitamin C followed by a sunscreen in thr morning and Vitamin A applied and VOILA...

Beautiful skin for life
