Funded by Shipley Town Council, highlights of the day include a large carousel outside Shipley Library, music, street entertainment and carols.

Father Christmas and face painting will be available in the Underground Market, story-telling, more face painting and magicians in Shipley Library, and wreath making in the newly refurbished Hive centre are just some of the free activities available for visitors to enjoy.

The Kirkgate Community Centre will hosting entertainment including refreshments, a Christmas Show, a Quiet Space and crafting

Local organisation, Activity Den are also hosting a Christmas market and an elf workshop 3-6pm, and a cinema showing a Christmas classic film at 3pm and 5:30pm. Pre-booking is required for the workshop and cinema. Tickets are £2 for adults and free for children. The outdoor market will also include a range of additional stalls including crafts, and artisan foods.

Christmas carols will take place from 4.00pm ahead of the festive lights switched on at 4.45pm.

The Christmas Tree Festival at St. Paul’s Church will follow from 5pm.

Cllr Mike Farren, the Chair of Shipley Town Council’s Community Engagement Committee said: “Every year we look forward to the festive light switch on as there’s such a fantastic atmosphere in the town centre. With lots of free activities for the family to enjoy, and entertainment throughout the town centre, we look forward to a great day celebrating the countdown to Christmas.”
