Doncaster Sheffield Airport is pleased to announce the appointment of Dee Thomas as its new Director of Operations. As we approach International Women’s Day #eachforequal campaign, Dee is a key senior appointment for the airport which is keen to encourage more women to work in aviation.

Dee joined DSA at the start of the year having relocated from Kent where she worked for Wilson James, suppliers of security, logistics and business support, where she was the Director of Aviation. In her role she was responsible for the strategic leadership ensuring high performing teams delivered safe and effective services for their clients.

Robert Hough CBE, Chairman of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dee to the team, where she will oversee operations including sustainability, compliance, passenger services and terminal operations. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position and is already delivering great results. Dee is a positive role model in our drive to encourage more women to consider a career in aviation.”

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is keen to support International Women’s Day 2020 and its #eachforequal campaign and its key mission to achieve the forging of inclusive workplaces by championing women of all backgrounds who dare to innovate, lead, and uplift others.

International Women’s Day #eachforequal campaign is a reminder that we can all work together to create a gender equal world. Doncaster Sheffield Airport is already committed to gender equality and diversity and signed the Women in Aviation and Aerospace Charter in 2019. It is pro-actively working towards gender equality across its workforce and attracting more women into senior management roles.

In fact, 35% of senior roles at DSA are now held by women, compared to 27% in June 2019, when the airport signed the Charter.

DSA is also working closely with local schools as part of its Bright Futures school engagement programme to highlight the number and wide range of roles available in aviation and at the airport and encouraging young people to consider it as a career choice offering skilled and non-traditional roles for women.

Dee Thomas, Director of Operations at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “I’m delighted to join the team at DSA at such an exciting time. It has real ambitions for growth through its passenger numbers, increased destinations as well as its thriving cargo business. A key focus for me and my team will be how we manage this in a respectful and sustainable manner.

“DSA has impressed me with its commitment to encouraging more women to work in the aviation industry and I am very proud to support its drive to encourage more females to consider this as a career option. I’m very happy to be here and my family and I are thrilled by the wonderful warm Yorkshire welcome we have received.”
